Barney!  How nice to see you! 

He was in the yard, so I presented him with a tug toy to help him keep his paws on the ground.  No jumping, especially today, Barney!

He was still pretty inclined, but did get the memo when I removed any interaction with him and exploded with 'yays!' when he was politely walking next to me.

We used tug to get out some of the crazies and practiced only grabbing it when I said 'take it!'.  It was good work for him.  He started to understand that just because I said 'ok' or 'ready?' didn't mean it was time to chomp it.  If he did, toy went away! 

And it was a great way to reward nice walking!  He is so playful with that thing!

 

I could tell he was delightfully focused.  We had a nice walk around the neighborhood and focused on good walking behavior as well.  We did find a groove and had some success with paws on the ground, pace, and following verbal commands such as sit, down, with me, take it, and drop it.

 

Next time I will remember to a lot more time for some crate fun.  He went in alright, but not as happy as could be for special crate time.
